Project
Nested in the shadows of the Bolte Bridge in Melbourne’s fast growing Docklands precinct, the Ron Barassi Snr Park is a City of Melbourne urban renewal project created to increase opportunities to get active for local residents. At the heart of the park lies an adventure playground that has become a popular destination for families. Named in honour of local football legend Ron Barassi Senior, the playground makes great use of its urban setting, looking up to the structural elements of the bridge as well as offering great views of towering city skyscrapers.
Design
The unique location of the playground provides a fun filled space for kids of all ages and abilities. It makes great use of natural elements and with extensive use of timber play equipment it looked like it had been there for a while on the day it was opened by the Mayor.
There’s a wonderful water play area, and heaps of sand with engaging Richter Spielgeräte sand play equipment, including a Large Excavator, Sand Tipper, Sand Transport System and a Turning Crane. For parents there are a number of shaded areas and picnic tables for relaxing, whilst their little ones burn off some energy.
Equipment
Richter Spielgeräte equipment features throughout the playground, with an imposing 11m high Pyramid Tower and 10m Curving Tunnel Slide challenging and delighting the children. A Rope Bridge provides great play value and helps kids learn to visualise stability challenges as they make their way across.
There really is something for everyone at the playground, including an exhilarating tractor tyre swing, a stainless steel slide, and two turning tyres. There’s also a climbing wall and in the water play area there’s a playground pump and two mushroom spring pumps.
