Project
Vineyard is a rapidly growing outer suburb north- west of Sydney. As you can probably surmise from its name, it is an area with a viticultural heritage. Sitting on an eight hectare site, the local watering hole has been recently transformed into The Vineyard, a family friendly hospitality destination by the Zenith Hotels group.
The Vineyard features a bistro, indoor and outdoor bars, a beer garden, as well as high quality on-site accommodation. The latest addition to the venue is the Vineyard Farmhouse, a wonderful playspace featuring Richter Spielgeräte equipment suitable for a variety of ages and abilities.
Design
The Landscape architect on the project, Studio Georgouras, set out to create a playground with a strong connection to agricultural and grape growing heritage of the area. As a result, The Vineyard Farmhouse has become something of a destination in its own right, offering a play experience that is both fun and meaningful.
Working with our play partners Richter Spielgeräte, Urbania prioritised the use of natural, sustainable timbers to ensure the new playground looked instantly at home in the landscape.
Urbania also recommended extensive use of a Red Viroc cladding which was used extensively on the facade of the structure, evoking the grape stained interior of wine barrels. Winemaking memories are further evoked through the use of subtle red soft-fall areas.
Equipment
Whilst viticultural moments may be central to the playspace design, what gets children excited is just how much fun is to be had.
The central Farmhouse Tower offers three levels for curious minds to explore, and the barn houses a kiddie-sized kitchen, sandpit and sensory play area. There’s also a fun Net bridge, Rope bridge and a Hexagonal Spiral Tower.
Further enhancing the viticultural theme are bespoke barrel-inspired climbing features, a tractor play piece, and a magical slide inspired by the classic Aussie grain silo. Whether its climbing, sliding, or role playing in the Farmhouse Tower kitchen, this playground offers age appropriate challenges for younger children, as well as a number of more inspiring challenges for older children.
