A playful parkspace set amidst a luxurious bushland setting.

Project

A quiet, rural village which developed after the 1850 goldrush, Warrandyte today is an outer suburb of Melbourne situated on the Yarra River, surrounded by the bushland.

The wonguim wilam playspace has become something of a tourist destination, especially on weekends. It takes its name from Wurundjeri language, where it loosely translates as boomerang place.

Design

The new playspace was commissioned by the Manningham City Council, with financial support from the Victorian Government through its Local Parks Revitalisation Program. It was designed to connect children with nature and the Urbania team were keen to ensure it offered play opportunities for all ages and abilities.

The council has a firm commitment to reconciliation, so there was consultation with key stakeholders including the Lions Club of Warrandyte, Masterplan Community Reference Group and the Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung Cultural Heritage Aboriginal Corporation.

Equipment

Our partners Richter Spielgeräte provided a canopy climb with tall slide, a dancing snake swing, an inclusive spinner, wheelchair accessible trampolines, and a dedicated nature sensory play area.
