A veritable wonderland of play beneath the railway.

Project

As part of the Victorian government's level crossing removal project, the train stations at Coburg and Moreland were raised above the roadway. This resulted in an opportunity to create community playspaces beneath the rail-line.

The Merri-bek City Council was keen to ensure that the new playspaces appealed to all. Urbania’s vision was to create nature play wonderlands at each station, where children could escape from the built-up urban environment.

Design

During community consultation the local people said they wanted to give children the chance to get out and experience nature even though they were within a highly urban environment.

It was also crucial that playground equipment was high-quality, low-maintenance and offered a range of challenges for children of all ages.

Equipment

Urbania worked through several different designs with Tract, the landscape architect. Our partner Richter Spielgeräte supplied a variety of timber based equipment, including a castle tower & tunnel slide combination, a climbing structure, balance blocks, jumping discs and the ever popular car-tyre swing.
