An engaging playspace in gold country on the edge of Melbourne.

Project

Situated approximately 23kn northeast of central Melbourne, the picturesque town of Diamond Creek is the kind of place best described as being where the city meets the country.

Working with Nillumbik Shire and the local community, Urbania developed a nature-based playspace that paid homage to its bushland setting, and provided an engaging play experience for all ages and abilities.

Design

Using the region’s gold mining history as inspiration, the Diamond Creek Regional Playspace features plenty of timber and natural stone, landscaped rises and an open lawn area. Kids are always in for a surprise when visiting, as gold painted nuggets were scattered into the sandpit area for them to find.

Equipment

Our partners Richter Spielgeräte provided exquisitely crafted timber play equipment, including a 50m cableway flying fox, a large climbing structure, a hut village and a series of conveyor tracks where the kids could ‘pan for gold’ and transport their payload.

Review

After visiting with her children, popular blogger Mamma Knows said the playspace had the best sand pit in Melbourne. Read more here.
