A community playspace celebrating maritime history for the Port of Melbourne Corporation.

Project

Working in collaboration with the team at Oculus Studios, Urbania created a playspace steeped in the traditions of seafaring and the maritime history of the area.

Nestled in a sandy foreshore setting, its centrepiece is a dramatic wooden tower with crow’s nest and spiral slide, where kids of all ages can gaze out across Port Phillip bay in the hope of spotting a pirate ship.

Design

To enhance the context of the site, the playspace design incorporated a variety of decommissioned and re-purposed maritime objects, including mooring buoys and channel markers.

Equipment

Our partners Richter Spielgeräte provided stunning timber play equipment suitable for all ages and abilities for the Maritime Cove project.

This included a climbing structure and a large bespoke crow’s nest tower with tunnel slide. A water play area features forest fountain masts and a long handle pump. As well as a climbing forest with rope challenges for all age groups.
