Project
As part of the Victorian government’s level crossing removal project, the Moreland train station was raised above the roadway. This resulted in an opportunity for Merri-bek City Council to create a community playspace beneath the rail-line.
The vision of landscape architect Tract, was the creation of a nature play wonderland, where the local children could escape from the built-up urban environment.
Design
During community consultation locals said they wanted to give children the chance to get out and experience nature even though they were within a highly urban environment.
It was also crucial that all playground equipment was high-quality, low-maintenance and offered a range of challenges for children of all ages.
Equipment
Urbania worked with our play partner Richter Spielgeräte on the creation and supply of a variety of high play value playground equipment.
A striking timber castle tower with tunnel slide has given the playspace a true centrepiece, adding atmosphere to the park. It’s reminiscent of an old fortified tower and has become a popular meeting point for kids young and old.
Also popular with energetic kids are the Richter jumping discs. These disc platforms are mounted on strong, low springs, which propel children from one disc to another when they jump.
Urbania also installed a much loved car-tyre swing, as well as balance blocks, which kids discover are not quite as steady as they imagine, helping them develop balance and body awareness.
