Kingston Park TAS
Design
The local area is rich in Indigenous history, so consultants from Playstreet, the landscape architect for the project, designed the park with nine distinct playzones, each representing one of Tasmania’s nine Aboriginal Nations, along with their own animal motifs.
The park was recognised by the Australian Institute of Landscape Architects (AILA) for its innovative design, which engaged deeply with local Aboriginal history and culture.

Project
Nestled at the foothills of kunanyi / Mount Wellington in Tasmania, there is literally something for everyone at Kingston Park.
A joint project of the Kingborough Council and Playstreet, this truly inclusive playground is family friendly, with numerous age-appropriate, nature-based zones for the kids to play.
Equipment
Working with our play partners Richter Spielgeräte, we created a bespoke Climbing Forest for the park, which provides a thrilling challenge for children of all ages and abilities.
This Climbing Forest helps kids improve motor skills, and build confidence in their ability to both assess and take risks.
Every Climbing Forest is built to last, with timber posts hand crafted from European Oak, which is hard, durable and good to work with. It also ages beautifully.
A spider’s-web rope system helps young children in particular learn about balance and stability, as well as hand over hand co-ordination when climbing.
Hercules rope is used for the Climbing Forest, which boasts a steel wire core for internal tension, giving children a sense of resistance when climbing. A textile covering ensures good grip for little hands, to minimise injury risk.
